Model Trains

PA-1 EL Diesel This is a shot of a PA-1 diesel engine coming around a curve an old unfinshed train layout of mine. The engine is an Erie-Lackawanna unit that was current at the time I was growing up in Milford, Pennsylvania.

My father used to commute to work on these trains, and I remember, although somewhat foggily, seeing these monster PA, PB and F7 engines sitting in the station in Port Jervis New York, waiting to carry him to work. I had no idea where work was, but I sure thought it was neat that he got to ride on those trains. They looked huge to a young child - in fact, they are huge.

I have been working for years to collect as many Erie-Lackawanna trains as I can in N-scale. It's been quite difficult, because first of all, here in the midwest, no one has ever heard of the line. That means that my entire access is via mail order or online auctions, and that's been pretty sparse, to say the least. What I want more than anything at this point is a set of passenger cars with the Erie-Lackawanna logo on them. If I can find such a thing, I'm going to create a detailed diorama of the station scene that is so strong in my memory.

News!

The world turns. Since I wrote the above, I have found a beautiful set of N-gauge passenger cars to go with my Erie-Lackawanna engines. These are, as best I can remember, exactly like the ones I used to see. I'm very pleased, as the reader might imagine after perusing the previous paragraphs. I've also found (and purchased), via the EBay online auctioning system, a heavyweight Erie-Lackawanna car in H.O. gauge.

Now I've got some deciding to do. I have temporarily mounted a long track on the wall where I can display the cars; I need to think about just how to set them up for a longer term. In the meantime, I'll take some pictures and on the off chance that someone else actually cares about this, I'll post them on this page.
