Rights

Here's the basic premise: My rights end where yours begin, and vice-versa.

For instance, you want to smoke? Fabulous. I support your right to smoke. However, I totally deny you have any right to smoke outside your home where I have to breathe your poisonous gas and particulate emissions. I also deny you have any right to take any part of my income to service your smoking-related medical needs. Want to smoke in your own home? I have no right to say a word. If I don't like it, I need to leave. It's your castle, and you're the monarch. I'm a lowly peasant guest, no more. I only reserve the right to claim those same rights in my home.

You want to drink, or drug? I absolutely support your right to toast yourself into a coma, or into death. However, you drive in that condition and put my loved ones at risk, and I'll be first in line to pull the switch on the electric chair, or inject the lethal fluid. In fact, I'd clip the electrodes to your genitals and stick the needle right in your eye, moron. And go home smiling.

Want to enter my home without my permission? I will assume you're there to do harm, and I'll do unto you, first. And I probably won't ask why you're there, though I may enquire of your next of kin when they show up to claim your remains.
